Dancing Mom, Alone Daughter

Raizel found love, care and hope as she studied at the Bridge of Hope center.

While Saima danced in color and fame for the crowds to put food on the family table, her 9-year-old daughter, Raizel, was left alone at home. After Saima’s husband died from alcohol addiction, she had no way to provide for her family. She found meeting the needs of her three daughters to be a heavy load to bear by herself. Saima wasn’t completely destitute though—she was an excellent dancer.

With her skill in dance, Saima worked in street shows, and the crowds soon grew to love her. But Saima was often busy and couldn’t give her daughters the mother’s care they needed and longed for. While one daughter studied in a hostel, the other, barely 13 years old, performed in the street shows with her mother. This left Raizel alone by herself.

“I am busy during the seasons of different festivals where I get chances to perform programs,” Saima said. “During those days, I can’t stay at home during the day and night. Sometimes, I am away from home for weeks, because of long trips for the programs.”

Love and Attention for a Lonely Girl

Raizel, fatherless and alone, began to accept her silent, lonely lifestyle. Though she had the desire to go to school, she didn’t have the guidance, support or aid to help her achieve it. But God knew Raizel’s situation and the desires in her heart. He would soon meet her needs.

One day, some Gospel for Asia (GFA)-supported Bridge of Hope staff members found out about Raizel’s family condition and offered her enrollment in the center. Raizel started off weak in her studies; it was a whole new experience for her. But after Raizel was nurtured, loved and tutored by the caring staff at the Bridge of Hope center, she became strong in her subjects, especially math and English. Raizel began to come out of her shell and be active with other students and participate in their activities such as singing actions songs, writing to sponsors, doing crafts and enjoying a daily meal.

As Saima saw the transformation in her youngest girl, she was grateful to the Bridge of Hope staff for offering her daughter an education.

“I am thankful to the Bridge of Hope center for taking my daughter, where she is morally and physically developed, and now she is so good in studies,” Saima said. “Thank you for providing such a hope to my child, which will decide her future.”
