Unexpected Gifts Come . . . Squawking

APCL15-0029-thumbnailWhen Anhithi, Yuktha, Aadita and Risha visited the homes of widows in the area where they were ministering as Sisters of Compassion, they had opportunities to help the widows with chores and comfort them with words of Scripture. But the four Gospel for Asia (GFA)-supported missionaries wanted to help the women in another practical way: by providing them with a source of income.

Anhithi, Yuktha, Aadita and Risha decided to help 10 poor widows in their area by giving each of them a gift that would provide them not just a steady income but an income that would increase with time.

The Sisters of Compassion brought a pair of chickens to each of the widows’ homes.

“These widows are extremely poor; some of them don’t even have proper utensils or basic household things in their house,” Anhithi said. “I believe giving this small gift will really mean a lot to them. They can earn something for their family.”

The widows received their gifts with excitement, grateful for the unexpected source of income. Some of the women, including an elderly widow named Mayra, had wanted chickens but couldn’t afford them. Mayra has lived with her son since suffering the loss of both her husband and her daughter years ago.

“I am really happy to receive this pair of chickens,” Mayra said. “But I am so happy because of your love and concern for me. I actually wanted to have chickens for a long time, but I did not get the chance to buy them because I do not have any source of income now. My son’s income is just hand to mouth. I believe this chicken will help me to raise at least some amount of income in the days to come.”

Neha, a mother of four, previously earned her income by raising pigs and occasionally working as a daily wage laborer.

“I really did not expect anything like this, and I have never received any gift before,” she said. “I am so thankful to you for giving this pair of chickens. I believe they will be a great help in raising some amount of money and will help with my children’s schooling. I will take care of them safely so that they will produce many chickens.”

Even better than providing potential income, the kindness shown by the Sisters of Compassion gave many of the widows a desire to know the God whose love inspired the missionaries’ kindness. Some of the widows who received chickens started attending worship services at the local church.

Yuktha’s face beamed as she gave Mayra a pair of chickens.

When Risha handed Neha the unexpected gift, the widow’s heart filled with gratitude.

Each pair of chickens given by the Sisters of Compassion offers a widow the chance to better provide for herself and her children.

I believe that my own words cannot desribe or resume my feelings about this testimony just as well as the scripture can do it, that’s why I wish only to comment with Gods Word in
1 Peter 2:12: “Keep your conduct among the Gentiles honorable, so that when they speak against you as evildoers, they may see your good deeds and glorify God on the day of visitation.”

May God continue to bless the Ministry of these Sisters of Compassion and of the whole organisation of GfA!!!
