Sewing Machine Paves Way for a Brighter Future After Pigs Die

Pramiti wandered into the forest. The responsibilities of caring for her aged father and her own burning desire to finish college weighed on her young shoulders. As she plucked fruit to later sell in the market, she knew the fruit of her labor was simply not enough to meet all her needs.

The Needs of a Student

Pramiti supported her father and household by bearing the weight of the breadwinner. Along with gathering fruit and selling it, she went to work as a daily wage earner. Pramiti also used to raise pigs. From the income she earned by rearing pigs, she pursued a college degree and was able to pay for her books and tuition.

Unfortunately, one day the pigs fell ill and died. This was devastating to Pramiti. Would she be able to finish school? This disappointing event consequently spurred on a season in her life where she was completely dependent on the Lord.

The Lord Will Provide

For months, Pramiti knelt before the Lord and prayed for a new opportunity to earn money. In addition to praying earnestly, she fasted once a week. Finally, after six months, the Lord answered Pramiti’s faithful prayers when a Gospel for Asia (GFA)-supported pastor gave her a sewing machine provided by people across the globe.

The sewing machine filled Pramiti with happiness as she began diligently cultivating her skills in the craft of tailoring. The hum of the machine sounded as Pramiti took jobs and payments from her neighbors. After learning how to stitch clothing, she was able to make an adequate income to support her father as well as pay for books and school fees.

Sewing machines offer many people in Asia the opportunity to make a living.

“There was no ability in me to complete my studies,” Pramiti said, “but by the grace of God, I completed my graduation successfully.”

Gifts That Change Lives

The Lord has used GFA-supported Christmas gift distributions in wondrous ways in the lives of thousands of beneficiaries like Pramiti. Many have been provided with a means of income via farm animals, and travel has been made easier through bicycles for missionaries and school children alike.
