Rotten teeth and stomachaches were what awaited poor families in Vatya’s village with every drink of water. The water in their village is filled with pollution, but they drank it for years. While the wealthy could purchase clean water, those who didn’t have the extra money had no choice but to consume the dirty village water.

Vatya and his family faced this same problem. As a daily wage laborer, Vatya couldn’t purchase clean water. It wasn’t even an option. Because the village had struggled with this lack of clean water for years, Vatya grew up drinking it. He didn’t even realize the water was polluted.

One day Vatya and his family received a BioSand water filter from Gospel for Asia (GFA)-supported workers. At first they were unsure how a cement block would produce clean water. But to their surprise and delight, Vatya and his family tasted the water and realized how sweet and clean it was.

“I did not know that I had been drinking polluted water since my childhood,” Vatya said, “But after drinking [from] the BioSand water filter I now got the real taste, and even our villagers and relatives also like this water. I am thankful to the church for providing clean water through the BioSand water filter.”

Because Vatya was so blessed by this useful gift, he began to spread the word to many villagers about the BioSand water filters. With Vatya’s help, the church organized another distribution and provided eight more filters for local families.

Not only has Vatya seen the love of Christ through these simple, practical gifts, but now many in the village also have experienced it through the BioSand water filters.
