Chasing Happiness, Finding Love

Kerensa (pictured), having found her identity in Christ, now worships the Lord with her husband and fellow believers.

Childhood for Kerensa in a rural village in Asia was normal. Following in her parents’ footsteps, the young girl adhered to traditional rites and rituals. For prosperity and blessings in life, Kerensa was taught to perform sacrifices and donate money to local shrines. This was their life, and it was peaceful. Until one day when it wasn’t.

Changed for Life

At 13 years old, Kerensa was raped. Two boys lured her into a house and attacked the young girl. Even though the perpetrators were arrested and convicted, the scars remained. Kerensa felt defiled and dirty. There were times when she wished she would simply die. As the years passed, Kerensa would smoke, do drugs, steal—anything that would give her mind a sense of peace.

When Kerensa turned 21, she got married. The woman hoped her marriage would bring the elusive peace she sought. She bore a baby daughter, and it seemed Kerensa would finally get that happy ending after all. But it wasn’t to be, for soon after, Kerensa’s husband left her. Again, her heart broke. The emptiness Kerensa had fought for so long came rushing back like a tidal wave.

Love Finds Her

Then Kerensa met a man named Nakesh. He was different from the other men who had made appearances in her life. By the grace of God, Nakesh was a believer. And he wanted to marry her. After joining her life to Nakesh, she began attending a church led by a Gospel for Asia (GFA)-supported pastor. For years, Kerensa sat beside believers and worshiped the Lord, but she never engaged in a personal relationship with Jesus. Then one Sunday, a guest pastor visited the church and shared the powerful story of the prophet Hosea and his wife, Gomer.

The wonderful tale of forgiveness and redemption touched Kerensa’s heart. Suddenly, a passion ignited within her to know more about Jesus.

After services ended, Kerensa approached the pastor, eager to know more about Jesus and His forgiveness. The pastor explained it simply: If we confess our sins to Him, He will freely forgive. Then he gave Kerensa a New Testament.

Kerensa fervently read, and with each chapter, she found the love and peace she had been seeking for years. The Word of God stirred within her heart, and she fully embraced His redemption.

Now, Kerensa no longer feels dirty or defiled. She has found the most powerful and accepting love there is: God’s everlasting love.
