The One Who Would Give Her Rest

Maanika found hope through film ministry - Gospel for Asia - KP YohannanMaanika’s husband spent the year traveling from city to city for seasonal work, and she faithfully performed rituals to their gods. Yet for all that, her family often couldn’t meet their needs for just one day. It was no wonder she was given to complain.

When a Gospel for Asia (GFA)-supported film team came to Maanika’s house one day, the women missionaries shared about Christ and invited her to watch a film. Maanika responded with bitterness.

“We are hopeless in everything in this world,” she told the women. “Nobody is there to help us in our time of need. ” Everyone ignores the poor in our society.”

Maanika went on to explain her family’s financial struggles and all the problems they had faced. But instead of being intimidated by Maanika’s problems, the film team took the opportunity to encourage her and comfort her.

The women told Maanika how much Jesus loved her and explained Matthew 11:28: “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.”

It was the first time Maanika had heard about Christ’s love, and it deeply moved her. She decided to attend the film show that night after all.

That evening, as Maanika watched the life of Christ, she realized He could offer her the peace she was looking for. She understood the reason why she was always complaining came from not knowing God.

With joy in her heart, Maanika embraced Jesus. And though her financial struggles didn’t disappear, Maanika now knows she can trust Jesus as her constant provider.

Seeing the life of Jesus on film can bring peace to those in hopeless circumstance. Learn more.
