These words rang a sweet melody of joy and hope in Smita’s heart. She longed for deliverance, and the woman at her side gave her much assurance and comfort.
Devotion Leads to Witchcraft
Smita grew up as a devout follower of her family’s religion. Her father was a sorcerer, and he taught his family to follow closely in their traditional beliefs. Smita prayed every morning and evening to her god, and she remained steadfast in the practices of her religion after her marriage.
Over time, her devotion led her to become a witch doctor. Many in the village began seeking her out to perform sorcery and black magic, and her family and husband greatly encouraged her to continue. She enjoyed her work for many years, until one day she faced a problem her witchcraft couldn’t solve.
Losing Control
When Smita’s husband was away, she suddenly started screaming and spouting off whatever popped into her head. She had lost complete control over her behavior and actions. Her children took her to the hospital for help but returned home discouraged—the doctors could find nothing physically wrong with Smita. Although she was still performing witchcraft, she could not heal herself, and her condition worsened daily.
Smita’s family called other renowned witch doctors for help, but nothing freed her from her ailments. Smita became desperate.
Welcoming Jesus, Finding Freedom
When Shameena, a Gospel for Asia (GFA)-supported woman missionary, met Smita and her family one day, she introduced herself and told them about the love of Christ. Smita opened up to Shameena about her despairing condition.
Filled with compassion, Shameena and some women from her church prayed for Smita and offered her a New Testament and some Christian literature. Shameena explained to Smita that Jesus could take away her burdens and save her from her condition. Smita longed for this deliverance.
“I believe in Him,” Smita said. “I want to welcome Him in my life.”
Shameena continued to visit Smita and prayed for her frequently. In response to Smita’s faith and Shameena’s faithful prayers, the Lord completely delivered Smita!
Smita found true deliverance in the Lord, and now she desires to serve Him all her days. The hopelessness of being trapped in darkness faded away as the love of the Lord dawned in her life. Set free, Smita regularly attends the local church and longs to tell others about the God who healed her.

Amen! Glory to God! He breaks chains that bind us.
Wow. Glory to God
She was obviously demon-possessed. Herein lies the danger of serving and worshipping false gods.
Amen Amen & Amen Glory to the Mighty Name of Jesus, who is able and more than willing, Glory to the Name of Jesus Christ. …

And He said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature. 16 He who believes and is baptized will be saved; but he who does not believe will be condemned. 17 And these signs will follow those who believe: In My name they will cast out demons; they will speak with new tongues; 18 they will take up serpents; and if they drink anything deadly, it will by no means hurt them; they will lay hands on the sick, and they will recover.”
Christ Ascends to God’s Right Hand
(Luke 24:50-53)
19 So then, after the Lord had spoken to them, He was received up into heaven, and sat down at the right hand of God. 20 And they went out and preached everywhere, the Lord working with them and confirming the word through the accompanying signs. Amen.
