Water Moves Two Miles Closer

Maina and her family were affected by water scarcity in their village. Enduring the heat of the day, they walked more than two miles anytime they needed fresh water. Maina began to wonder if she would ever see relief, so she began to pray.

“It is estimated that 783 million people do not have access to clean water…” according to a study by the United Nations.

Enduring Thirst

Maina, her son and her husband lived among 200 other families in a remote village in Asia. The three of them worked hard as daily laborers, but they could not afford to install a water source near their home. Although they were dependent on each day’s earnings to pay for their expenses, they were forced to do without an entire a day’s wages in order to collect enough water for their needs. The nearest water source was two miles away, and they had to walk. Sacrificing work for water eventually gave way to financial issues, so Maina began to pray to the Lord for relief.

Drawing from a Well of Living Water

In the summer of 2015, the Lord answered Maina’s prayers. Her local Gospel for Asia (GFA)-supported pastor, Danvir, shared with his leaders of the need for a source of water in his village. Soon after, the Lord provided for the installation of a Jesus Well.

Maina and the villagers rejoiced because they no longer had to travel a great distance to get water. They are also reminded of Christ’s compassion when they draw fresh water from this well to use in their daily lives.

Maina and her pastor discuss the love of Christ with their neighbors, as they enjoy pure water from the Jesus Well. Some have even come to know the Lord after these conversations.

Thanks to the efforts of Pastor Danvir and the generosity of donors, Maina (not pictured) and her family no longer have to travel more than two miles to obtain fresh water for their daily lives.

Changing Lives One Water Well at a Time

Fresh water sustains human life. It is essential to healthy living and agriculture. According to a study by the United Nations, water scarcity affects more than 40 percent of the global population in various ways. People around the world, like Maina, go without safe drinking water and suffer the health and financial effects of this lack.

But GFA-supported workers throughout Asia work closely with communities in need to coordinate relief efforts that provide sources of fresh water for people like Maina. God used Gospel for Asia (GFA)-supported pastor Danvir to effect change in the lives of his village in this way. Thanks to the efforts of GFA-supported workers and the generosity of donors, people have access to Living Water.
