A Blow Couldn’t Stop the Film Show

A Blow Couldn’t Stop the Film ShowOmrao knew he was being watched—watched by men who didn’t want the other villagers to see the film he was showing that night. The day before, he and his fellow film-team members had successfully showed a movie about Jesus. Around 80 people had attended and joyfully listened to Omrao and his team share from the Word of God. Excited about the movie and the Good News they had heard, the villagers spread the word about another film show they were going to have, but some of the young men became furious after hearing this news.

They approached Omrao and began to threaten him and his team. They warned them to stop showing the film and to leave their village. Omrao politely replied to their remarks. He said they were not there to harm the people but to encourage them. He assured the young men they had not forced anyone to watch the film, but it was open to anyone who wanted to come.

When it came time to show the film the next day, Omrao sat surrounded by 200 curious people who had gathered. He was hoping to avoid problems from the men who had threatened him, but at that moment, he realized the film equipment was left unattended. He feared the young men could easily damage the costly tools. Omrao wondered if his sitting down among the viewers was such a good idea after all.

Silent prayers arose from his heart as he stood up and moved toward the projector. Just then, he felt a sharp blow on his shoulder. One of the young men had struck Omrao with a flashlight.
Then the group appeared and threatened him again, echoing what they had spoken to Omrao the day before.

But God heard Omrao’s prayers. As the young men caused unrest, some of the elders of the village chased them away.

“Why are you trying to create problems here when everyone is watching the film?” the elders said, confronting the young men. “We want to watch the film, and we do not want any trouble here. Go away from here and do whatever you want outside. Do not disturb us.”

By God’s grace the young men left Omrao alone, and the 200 villagers were able to finish the film in peace that night.

Missionaries and mobile teams face this kind of persecution often, but like Omrao, they are serving for a reason. No matter what those who oppose choose to do, they long to tell others about the love of Christ.

Please pray:
• The Lord will protect the mobile teams as they travel to many villages and meet many different kinds of people.
• God will give the missionaries boldness as they share His love.
• The Lord will fill the hearts of our brothers and sisters with love for those who oppose them.

It’s always encouraging to hear about what the Lord is doing, the miracles He performs, Praise God for the boldness of the elders of this village, and the wonderful answers to prayer.

The elders were right to chase the trouble makers away. I dare say we as God’s children may need to start opposing those who oppose us in a non violent way, if possible, knowng that we stand for God and not for this world. After all He says in His word to live peacable among all men as much as lieth in you. Turn the other cheek yes, but know after the third slap, we are free to make the choice to retaliate or not…which is also in His word. I think it’s time to have courage and not always act like sheep headed for a slaughter, although, losing one’s life for the God we love is the greatest honor, I believe, we could achieve in this life. To God be the glory; great things He hath done. And might I add, continue to do. Amen.

I pray that Jesus will fight for you all. Harassment is not an easy thing to go through. May God gives you all strength and keep safe. The battle is the Lord’s and He will give His angels charge over you to keep you in all your ways (Psalm 91). It is a wonderful ministry you all are doing for the Lord. God’s blessings.
